Amsterdam, once a year
SEO Open Mic
An evening where anyone in the room can take the microphone. No lineup, no slides.

This night works with sponsors, unlike the Salon.
The night
How it works
There is no speaker list. There is a microphone, and anyone who wants it gets a few minutes. A story from a project, a rant about a tool, a question you can't shake, a win nobody at work understood. Keep it short.
The room
Who it's for
Anyone in Amsterdam who works in or around search: SEOs, content people, marketers, the developers who get the tickets. It's bigger and more casual than the Salon.
You don't have to get up to come. Plenty of people come to listen and stay for the drinks.
In their words

Filmed on the night. Each clip has captions, and the full words are under it.

"I was pretty nervous before coming. But after coming here, I think people made me super comfortable."

[Interviewer] Okay, so how's your experience with the meetup? Well, this is my first meetup and I was pretty nervous before coming because I didn't know who I was going to meet, and I don't know a lot about SEO. But after coming here, I think people made me super comfortable and they were super helpful. They were telling me what SEO is all about and they supported me in learning SEO. They motivated me that you can learn and you can reach out if you have any questions. So I think it is super amazing and I'm glad that I came here.

"There's no sales pitch. No pressure. You know what to expect from this one."

[Interviewer] So, hello, how has your experience been with the meetup? Yeah, I always enjoy it. I come here regularly. I've been meeting great people, getting a lot of knowledge. Quite a lot that you can actually implement. So I have a really positive experience, probably why you keep seeing me here regularly. [Interviewer] And what would you say is your favourite thing about our community? There's no sales pitch. Of course you need sponsors to make this happen, so I respect that. But in general, I like everything about this community. No pressure. You know what to expect from this one. Even with the talks, even if they're not expert-expert, they share it with you and the communication is two ways. So that's really nice.

"It is very inclusive, even if you're not in the SEO space."

[Interviewer] Hello, so how has your experience with the meetup been so far? Well, it's not my first time at this meetup, I've been to several over the last year and I can really see the progress. Lucia and Baba are doing a great job growing the community, and today I'm meeting a lot of new people and having a really good time. [Interviewer] Amazing. And what's your favourite thing about the community? The fact that it is very inclusive, even if you're not in the SEO space. There are insights from all kinds of people and other industries, and in the end it all ties together. [Interviewer] Amazing, thank you so much. You're very welcome.

"Everybody in the SEO world learns from each other, talks to each other, learns from each other's failures."

[Interviewer] Hello, so what's your favourite thing about this community? Communities for me are all about meeting people. Everybody in the SEO world learns from each other, talks to each other, learns from each other's failures, as Jeroen mentioned earlier tonight. And from the first moment I came in contact with Baba, it was fantastic. For me that's like an SEO sparring partner. [Interviewer] And how would you say your experience has been with the Amsterdam SEO Meetup? Very positive, considering I'm not from Amsterdam. [Interviewer] Amazing, thank you so much!

Earlier editions
The first SEO Open Mic ran on 5 September 2025 at StartDock on the Singel, with Morningscore as sponsor. People took the mic indoors, then the evening moved up to the rooftop.
The Salon
Not the Salon
The Salon is fifteen people in a circle, every couple of months, with patrons and not sponsors. This night is bigger, looser, and works with sponsors.
Sponsors
Sponsoring this night
A sponsor helps pay for the evening. In return you get:
- Your logo on the event page on Luma
- Tags in my LinkedIn posts about the night
- A shoutout from me on the night
- Five to ten minutes at the microphone, to open or close the night
- Your team in the room, as my guests
There's no swag and no goodie bags. Most of it ends up in a drawer or a bin, and I'd rather the money goes into the evening itself.
I share the price in a conversation, the same way I do for Salon patrons.
